Madhya Pradesh government has taken a big decision related to OBC reservation. Kamal Nath’s government has declared that they will increase the OBC reservation in the state from 14 to 27 percent. The ordinance of Kamal Nath’s government has been approved by governor Anandiben Patel.

Apart from this, the state government will also implement a provision of 10 percent reservation in government jobs for economically backward citizens of general category. It is to note that while Kamal Nath was planning to increase OBC reservation in the state, Yogi’s government came up with first ad on 13 point roster system which has been criticized as anti-reservation by many.

Dilip Mandal wrote, “Kamal Nath has increased OBC reservation from 14 to 27 percent. BJP’s OBC chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was unable to do this from past 15 years. This is a welcome move.”

It is to note that OBC community are given 27% reservation at national level. The reservation system came in place to support educationally and socially ‘backward’ people. However, BJP government came 10% reservation for people of upper caste who are economically backward. Such a provision was not provided in Indian constitution before this. Also, the criteria for economically backwardness has also been criticized.
